the art of the expat

How did doshebu start?

Working abroad changes how you see the world. You learn to see things from different points of view.

doshebu started in 2008. The inspiration to start this company came from the search for a business that was intellectually engaging and reflected the values of the founders.

Kim and Sharon both worked through the Internet boom and bust in New York. The cultural problems created by the Internet collapse generated the idea of building a stable, values-based company that helped people.

New York, their professional experiences, and their families were influential in creating the values used to generate doshebu.

How did we choose the name?

Both partners have experienced the trauma of moving countries and understand the need for support on an international assignment.Working abroad needs a warrior mindset.

Kim, a black belt in martial arts, came up with the idea of bushido. Bushido, the art of the warrior, links the personality type of the warrior and the meaning of Sharon's family names together in a play on the word. Bushido was transformed into doshebu over beer and wings at TGI Friday's in London.
